Turn on Finder integration. If you’re on OSX 10.10 or higher, get sync status directly from Finder by enabling Finder overlays in Settings. First, click the Apple logo in the top left corner of your Mac Desktop and select System Preferences, then select Extensions in the top-level menu (shown in the 3rd row from the top). Toggle on the OneDrive Finder Integration to enable Finder overlays. Launch the AppleODDInstaller64.exe file, that is located at: /BootCamp/Drivers/Apple/AppleODDInstaller.exe, and then, follow the steps to install the driver on your PC. After successfully installing this driver, you should be able to use the SuperDrive as you normally would. A drive formatted in this fashion can be swapped between a Mac and Windows PC. However, you might choose instead a format you can use easily with OS X, Windows, and Linux.
- Create a partition folder for backing up the system data and choose the partition format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) from the Format drop-down menu.
- Click the Apply button after partitioning your hard drive.
- Next, create a backup of your system data using the Time Machine Backup feature.
- Click the System Preferences icon at the Dock or click the Apple menu and select System Preferences from the drop-down menu.
- In the System Preferences window, click the Time Machine icon and select the Add or Remove Backup Disk option.
- Now, choose the created partition on your WD easystore hard drive to start backing up your files.
- Click the Use Disk button and check the “Back up Automatically” checkbox under the Time Machine icon.
- Also, check the “Show Time Machine in the menu bar” checkbox from the Time Machine window.
- If you wish to start a backup for the next time, click the Time Machine icon at the menu bar and select the Back up Now button.
- You can also use the WD Discovery app for accessing the WD Backup software to back up your data.
WARNING: Formatting will erase all data on the device. Back up all your data before proceeding.
Instructions below are for 10.11.x (El Capitan) and 10.12.x (Sierra) Western digital external for mac.
1. Double-click on Macintosh HD - or in the Finder menu clickFile > New Finder Window
2. Click the Applications folder - if using a Finder Window Applicationswill be in the left side menu.
3. Click the Utilities folder.
4. Double-click Disk Utility.
5. On the left side of the window are the drives connected to the computer. Select the capacity of the drive respective to the one containing the device you wish to format then click the Erase tab.
Example: If the drive is called 'NO NAME', directly above that, you should see the drive capacity of 'XXXX'. Select this capacity.
6. Verify Volume Format is set to MS-DOS file system or exFAT, Scheme is set to “Master Boot Record” (Do NOT select GUID Partition Map) then click Erase.

2. In the top menu bar, go to View, and choose Show All Devices

3. Select the upper level of the drive you would like to format and click the Erase button
4. Choose how you would like to format the drive
- Enter a Name for your drive
- Choose exFAT or MS-DOS (FAT) for the format
- Choose Master Boot Record for the Scheme
- Click Erase
5. When finished, the drive will be formatted and repartitioned successfully. Click the Done button

NOTE: exFAT can be used on flash drives or memory cards to transfer files larger than 4GB.
NOTE: MacOS 10.6.2 or higher is required for exFAT file system. Some older operating systems must have a patch installed before they can use the exFAT file system.
